Who are we?

The educational project “The Cells, the Genome, and You” is linked to the CTC (Center for Cell-Based Therapy – Regional Blood Center of Ribeirão Preto), one of the Cepids, funded by FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). The project was inspired by the methodological trajectory of the LEC (1981-2000), which worked directly with high school teachers and students.

In the Regional Blood Center it is possible to follow and document the interaction between teachers and students in the weekly activities in which they take part. Teachers and students, in groups, are involved in activities programed and guided by the researchers at the Blood Center and at USP in Ribeirão Preto.

For a better follow-up of the project, the House of the Science was created and our team has also started to support the activities in the study groups and then in their schools. The educational project of CTC has made possible to strengthen the relationship between researchers and teachers under an experimental approach, based on the experience of LEC.

The team of the House of Science coordinates and follows this process. The register and analyses of the data produced by the study group became a daily task. With the House of Science website, we will be able to disseminate and spread the project outcomes. We expect the website content leads to the participation of teachers and students – the ones already known and new guests - who become producers and authors of the website educational content. The team, together with researchers, teachers and colleagues, is working to establish an editorial board of this brave initiative as a way of disseminating and building the memory of a project of teachers’ permanent training.
